A Strong Woman in History: HER story

This Tuesday is International Women's Day and in the midst of Women's History Month I wanted to celebrate a strong woman in the history of my profession, an influencer of the very beginnings of chiropractic.

She was an author, professor, and anatomist, and one of few women in the chiropractic profession in those days, but she predicted, “Never before has there been such wonderful opportunities to women for practical service and in my opinion, there is no other profession in the whole world so splendidly adapted to women as chiropractic.”

Today attendance in Chiropractic schools has balanced to 50/50 women/men and we thank MABEL PALMER for her feminine voice, and all she has contributed to this truly extraordinarily art, science, and philosophy that we call Chiropractic.

She was also the wife of the founder of chiropractic, so as is common in our history, though we know her husband is extraordinary man, we can only guess how much her extraordinary influence it is behind the man who has received the glory. As put so eloquently in this toast to her in 1917:

"But, there’s a power behind the Throne:  Mabel Palmer!  At the mention of your name, our hearts beat faster. 'To those who know thee not, no words can paint- while those who know thee know all words are faint.' Charming and substantial, with a sturdy lack of pretentiousness, here “sufficiency” is divine. No wonder a man can accomplish miracles with such a woman for inspiration! Somebody said 'This world would be a wilderness if you had never had a birthday,' and we think that of you!"

Throughout time women have had a massive positive influence on the world we live in from behind the scenes.  I love supporting and celebrating ALL those who are making the world a better place.
